Incoming text Messages starting as new thread instead of continuing on the same thread!?

After updating to ios 16.4, I noticed that all incoming text messages are becoming new threads instead of continuing with the same thread (no changes to the name of the sender, and mostly it’s text messages from my service provider, bank, and other companies)

steps taken to resolve the issue but didn’t work:

1-Deleted new threads

2-Reset network settings

3-Toggle iMessages off and back on

4-Toggle iCloud messages sync off and back on

5-signed out of Apple ID account and back on

unfortunately nothing worked and I reached out to Apple support, waiting for their answer

If you are experiencing incoming text messages starting as a new thread instead of continuing on the same thread then

  1. Check iMessage Activation for the Phone Number: Check if it is being sent to the Apple ID or Phone Number. Similarly, is it being sent from Apple ID or a Phone Number?
  2. Check the contact's information: Make sure that the incoming text messages are from the same contact and that their contact information (name and phone number) is the same as the previous messages in the thread.
  3. Update your iPhone: Make sure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. To update your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts to download and install any available updates.
  4. Restart your iPhone: Restarting your iPhone can help resolve any temporary glitches or issues. Press and hold the power button until the “slide to power off” option appears. Slide the button to power off your device, then press the power button again to turn it back on.
  5. Reset your network settings: Resetting your network settings can help resolve any network-related issues that may be causing the problem. To do this, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note that this will reset your Wi-Fi passwords and cellular settings.

Hi,

I am facing the exact same issue and also right after updating to iOS 16.4.

Most (if not all) are actually SMS messages not iMessage, therefore, it’s not an Apple ID-related issue - it’s probably a bug from iOS 16.4.

Let me know if you find a way to resolve it.

Also, maybe let’s report the bug so that it would have more visibility?
