How to connect Apple CarPlay to 2023 Kia Niro?

Thank you. It does work as long as it is attached to the car’s usb port. Everything I have read indicates once the connection is successful it should work when it is disconnected but it doesn’t. This defeats the purpose of using CarPlay for us. I was hoping I had just missed a step.
Carplay is built into the cars infotainment system. If it supports it, plugging the iphone into a usb port in the car’s console should bring up Carplay.
