Can't type in apple id to update final cut pro

Every time I go to the app store to update final cut, it wants me to sign in (I thought I was signed in as my name/photo are in bottom left of store, but I guess not) the window pops up to sign in, with the empty box, but I can't click in the box and type my apple id. I've tried the "forgot id/password" route multiple times, changing my password so I can get in, but I still get back to this page and can't type anything.

Computer software is up to date.
