the number linked to my apple id was wrong now i cant log in to link my account, how do i correct the number

Phone number typo creating my Apple ID I made a typo when creating my Apple ID (wrong area code). I was able to set up the account and access by email, and want to change the phone number associated with it. The answer posted here a year ago (log in via a browser and reset the phone number under Security) no longer works - there is no option to change or remove the phone number. How can I do this now? Sign in to your Apple ID account page and edit / update your Apple ID details -> https://appleid.apple.com

edit / update your trusted phone number.
