How can I use the Function keys (F1, F2, F3...) in Apple Motion?

TL'DR

Anybody know how to make it so I can use the Function Keys (F1, F2... etc) in Motion?

Within Apple Motion, you can go to: Window > Show Inspector and you will where you can call up the Inspector, and have it open directly to one of four sub-tabs: Properties (F1), Behaviors (F2), Filters (F3), and Object (F4). I love keyboard shortcuts, so I want to use these using the Function Keys listed beside each option. However, when I press F1, F2, F3, etc... it is clear that these keys are mapped to using the Mission Control features of the OS... rather than the Motion App. I went to the Help menu to check the documentation, and here is what I found.

By default on your Mac computer, the F1–F12 keys are assigned to Mission Control, hardware controls such as brightness, audio volume, numlock, and so on.

You can change keyboard preferences so the F-keys work as Motion keyboard shortcuts.

Enable traditional function keys in Motion
Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, click Keyboard, then open the Keyboard pane (if it’s not already open).

Select the “Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys” checkbox.

This is the official and current Documentation for this "PRO app"... Motion.

Well... In pursuit of total iPhone-ification of everything, Apple, in their infinite wisdom, has done away with the System Preferences feature of macOS, so that 3/4 of my beautiful 16" Mac Book Pro's display can be ignored, in order to squish all preferences into a 1/4-width, vertical, mobile'esque, scroll'y thing, called System Settings.

Clearly Apple has not updated this document in several years.

I was able to find through a Google search on a 3rd party website where I can now go to System Settings (barf), scroll down (barf) to find Keyboard. Then, burried behind a button labeled Shorts cuts... and then again scrolling down (barf... barf...) to find Function Keys.... there is the preference (*I mean... Setting...) labeled... Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.

I enabled this. Hoping it would work for Motion. It did nothing. I made sure that my preference... I mean... Setting... saved. It did. I restarted Motion. Still did not work. I restarted my machine. It still did not work.

Hi

Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys - if this is active it means you would press the Fn key while pressing any function key -like a shift+key command - is this what you are doing in Motion? It works as expected for me.

Other than that, you should be able to remap your mission control shortcuts in macOS settings to free them up, but I'm not using Ventura yet so I could be wrong.

Meanwhile, just for future reference, in the Motion preferences, you'll see the commands options - that is where you can set up your own custom shortcuts.

I think you meant to write "if this inactive".

Turning this setting on will reverse the roles - it would then make the user need to hold down the fn key to use them for things like Mission Control.
