See Upgrade to the new Home architecture - Apple Support. It isn't clear from that document, but if you upgrade to the new Home architecture it is only visible to devices running iOS 16.2, or macOS 13.1 Ventura or better.

At this point your only option might be to delete the Home completely, then set up a new Home using one of the older devices. However if "new architecture" is attached to your Apple ID somehow, then you might even need to use a different Apple ID to set things up, and then invite your main account to share the Home.

As far as I am aware no iPod touch or iPhone 7 is capable of running iOS 16.

You must have at least one device that has updated to either iOS 16.2, or macOS 13.1 Ventura or better or you wouldn't have had the prompt to upgrade to the new home architecture. That prompt in turn did include small print that stated that older devices wouldn't be compatible. I have a Mac mini that can run High Sierra, Mojave or Catalina, and my M1 MacBook Air runs Monterey or Ventura. The Home app only works in Ventura now. As well as a newer iPhone and iPad that are on iOS 16 I have an older iPhone and iPad that cannot connect to the Home either. But I knew this would be the case before I decided to accept the upgrade to the new architecture because I read up on the details before doing so.

Is the Mac the only device that has a semi functioning home app? Try looking in another room for them. One of mine got put in a “default room” following the home architecture upgrade. I couldn’t t find it in the home app until I saw this room and wondered how it had a homepod. I was then able to assign it to the correct room. Look in hubs & bridges to see if they’re listed in there

The only way to get at settings to pair them is from a Home App thot supports the latest OS. or to reset them and set them up again, but this needs a newer device on the latest software, as you have discovered. They can be reset manually but it’s the set up and settings where you are stuck.

What version is your MacOS? Can you see the HomePods in the home app on it? I thought at first you said you could.

It looks like your wife can access home to invite you to share it. Then you can use your Mac to control home

As to the configuring status try unplugging both HomePods for 10 seconds to see if this helps.

On your older devices that no longer support the Home App go into Settings - your name - iCloud - Apps Using iCloud - Show All, scroll down to Home and disable it , it might be enabled in green so if it is toggle that to off. it looks like this:

Yes Miam one MacBook Pro took the upgrade whereas my wife’s iPod touch didn’t take the upgrade but my iPod touch and my iPhone 7 didn’t take the upgrade. I know this is confusing and I guess I missed that in the small print that it wouldn’t be compatible. But there still should be a way to go back to the old home app. As it stands now I have no way of controlling my first generation HomePods other than through my iPods and iPhone 7. I can still access the set up screens. However when playing the HomePods through my Mac with my music app they show as two separate speakers, no way to join them. Although they are joined on my iPhone 7 and two iPods.

M1 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.3.1. The pods were in the home app until the tech had me delete them and then delete the home. Bad move. I did unplug and reset them with my iPod touch. It asked if I wanted to set up as a stereo pair and I said yes. It Didn’t do it. The are set as individual pods. I was thinking of doing a back up, then doing a complete recovery mode start up, loading in previous version of software and then install my back up. Agree?

I’m not one to ask about Macs and recovery.

Yes it was a bad move to delete your HomePods when you had this only one device that could run HomeKit. This home architecture is new and not many of us are well schooled on it. the Apple Reps can be very helpful but it depends on who you get. You might try reaching out to them again and ask for a senior Advisor. You have a tricky situation that just makes us want to suggest “buying newer devices” which I know you don’t want to do. I got a new iPhone last year, the budget model SE 3rd Gen 2022. It’s about the same size as an 8 or 7 with a Home button, nothing fancy but it works for me. My iPhone 8 was dying and I had no choice but to get a new one and keep the cost down (basically free with my carrier) but still have it be a new model that wouldn’t become obsolete in the near future for things like this. - Just a heads up that iOS 17 will likely come out in September or whenever they release the next iPhone 15. (iPhone 14 is currently the latest model) You will eventually need to get a new iPhone. It’s getting to be with Apple that every time you set something up it wants you to get your iPhone out with the latest OS to facilitate the set up.

They have no answer other than run IOS16 on the iPhone 7 and iPod touch which can't be done. They have no answer for why the MacBook pro running 13.3 can't display the Home Pods. Short answer from them was replace all your mobile devices. Not going to happen. I will borrow my daughters iPhone 14 and log out of her Apple ID and log into mine and see if I can get the Home Pods to show up in the Home App on my MackBook Pro. Otherwise no way to control the Home Pods (Gen 2).

Tech-support had me delete the HomePods that was showing in my Home app. Now I can’t get them back. I think the underlying problem is the home app upgrade is not compatible with my iPhone 7 and two iPod seventh generation. I am running iOS 15.7.4. Can’t upgrade to iOS 16. normally when you try to upgrade if it’s not compatible it won’t happen, for some reason it upgraded the iPhone 7 and one of the iPod touches, but not the other one. I have no functionality in any of my iPods with home app nor the iPhone 7. The error message I am getting on to all the devices is this home can’t be viewed because it requires software that’s not compatible. Whereas the other iPod still shows the old home and no error messages. I need to downgrade back to the Home app that I had but no one is helpful on that. Again Apple normally will not install something that is not compatible in there in lies the problem but I can’t get any of the tech support people to understand that. They keep telling me I have to upgrade my equipment to current Technology. I told them my iPods are only two years old and there’s no way Apple we kill my entire ecosystem without some kind of notice.

You are correct, the three mobile devices cannot run IOS 16. I did delete the home on my MacBook and created a new room. Still can’t reach it. I don’t think I can create it from my iPhone or my iPod as I can’t get out of the screen I am in. I will try from my wife’s iPod as it still shows the old Home Screen. This is what my iPod and iPhone Home Screen looks like after the upgrade.
