Voice-to-text - inserts a space after an apostrophe/open quotes, but before the quoted text...

Why is this?

Edifying note: Please do not advise to 'turn off auto-correct', this is not an answer to the question I'm asking. After an earnest effort, I can conceive of no functional purpose for this time-wasting and productivity-draining feature - other than a ML-captcha-type hoop for training purposes...and yet...it has been in place since iOS 12, at least.

Hopefully the sincerity of this question prevails over any perceived snark in the tone:) - thanks for interpreting it in the spirit in which it's intended.

Any insights?

Danke, tak and domo.

If your iPhone's voice-to-text feature is inserting a space after an apostrophe or open quotes, but before the quoted text, it may be due to a setting in the keyboard settings.

To check and change this setting, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on "General" and then "Keyboard".
  3. Look for the "Smart Punctuation" option and toggle it off.

Smart Punctuation is a feature that automatically changes certain punctuation marks, such as quotes and apostrophes, to their curly or "smart" equivalents. However, this feature can sometimes cause issues with voice-to-text, as it may interpret the spoken punctuation incorrectly.

By toggling off the Smart Punctuation option, your iPhone will no longer automatically add spaces before or after certain punctuation marks, and this may resolve the issue you are experiencing.
