Flights climbed way off

I used my phone and Apple Watch while exercising the last two days. Boy days the health app shows that I climbed 4 flights of stairs. Yesterday I didn’t use the exercise app and I don’t know with any precision how much I climbed, but it was clearly more than 4 flights.

This evening I walked 5.5 miles and climbed close to 600’. I know because it was climbing a local mountain on a trail I’ve used numerous times.

Any thoughts what could be going on?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.

"Note: Compass won’t display elevation or coordinates if Location Services is turned off. To turn Location Services on or off, open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch, tap Privacy, then tap Location Services."
