Apple Pay Touchless Payment Function Stopped Working. How do I get it to work again?

I haven’t had any problems using my iPhone and holding it near a card machine with Apple Pay until just recently. I recently upgraded to iOS 16.4, and I did have a couple display glitches right after I was able to fix. Not sure if the update somehow affected Apple Pay. None of my cards have holds or restrictions. I use that function regularly, at places I know are compatible with Apple Pay. My iPhone did this once before a long time ago. I think all I needed was to update my iOS and the problem went way. But now it seems like completing an update might have done something, and I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have an idea what might be going on and how to fix it?
