Stuck in split screen, exit button doesn't appear when I move mouse to top of screen... help!

I am stuck in split screen and the exit button does not appear when I move the mouse to the top of the screen. I use Chrome browser. How do I make it so the exit buttons show up CONSISTENTLY? Sometimes it works, other times it does not... and it's a major pain how often it does not work (and a TON of wasted time). I never had this problem until I upgraded to Ventura... super glitchy.

Pressing the Mission Control button just puts it in a preview frame up top. That allows me to access my desktop again, but it doesn't actually let me unsplit the screens. I have to open and close the page from Mission Control button (and often have to open other documents/pages) many times before the exit button eventually appears. Sometimes it is stuck like that for days and is super frustrating and annoying to deal with when I am working on documents and projects.

"Displays have separate Spaces" under Desktop & Dock is checked on as other googled solutions suggest and it still doesn't work.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue with split screen on your Mac running Ventura. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Try using the keyboard shortcut to exit split screen: Press and hold the Control key on your keyboard, then press the Up Arrow key. This should bring up the Mission Control view and allow you to exit split screen.
  2. Check your System Preferences: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Mission Control and make sure that "Displays have separate Spaces" is selected. If it is already selected, try toggling it off and on again and see if that resolves the issue.
  3. Quit and restart Chrome: Sometimes quitting and restarting the app can resolve the issue. Make sure to save any work in Chrome before quitting.
  4. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: Resetting your NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory) or PRAM (parameter random-access memory) can sometimes resolve issues related to display and other settings. To reset NVRAM or PRAM, shut down your Mac, then press and hold the Option, Command, P, and R keys simultaneously. Keep holding these keys until your Mac restarts and you hear the startup sound twice.
  5. Disable split screen entirely: If none of the above steps work, you can try disabling split screen entirely. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Mission Control and uncheck the box next to "Displays have separate Spaces". This will disable split screen, but it should allow you to use your Mac without encountering the issue.

I hope one of these solutions works for you. If the issue persists, you may want to contact Apple support for further assistance.

I have the same issue again. I upgraded my wife's Mac book air (M2 chip) to Ventura.

Now she is arguing me every day because she cannot exit from full screen. Life is hard.

It happens for full screen mode as well as split screen mode. It works inconsistently sometimes the exit screen button show up, sometimes not.

Is there a proper fix in newer fixes? Is there a way to rollback to previous OS version?
