iPhone camera jitters and records slow motions at 185fps instead of 240fps…( This is happening at full bright daylight conditions)

Hi,

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 13 to a 14 pro and noticed that when I record 240fps slo mo videos, they seem jittery compared to what I used to get with my old 11 pro. I took a look at the recorded video file details and found that they are only recording at 185fps. I'm guessing it's trying to record at 240fps but dropping frames so ending up with a jittery 185fps. I went back and checked videos that I had recorded with my old 11 pro and they all report 240fps and play smooth as expected. Anyone else seen this issue? By the way this issue goes away after restarting phone. But it will come back after some time. I also experienced same issue with my old iPhone 13. I think it’s a software issue … Is there any solution for this issue????

Hey SCORPIO98,

Are these specific recordings on your iPhone 14 Pro in low light? there is a feature in iOS that may adjust the fps to compensate for low lighting conditions when shooting video.

"Adjust Auto FPS settings

On iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and later, iPhone can improve the video quality in low-light situations by automatically reducing the frame rate to 24 fps.

Go to Settings  > Camera > Record Video, then do one of the following:

  • On iPhone 12 models, iPhone 13 models, iPhone 14 models, and iPhone SE (3rd generation): Tap Auto FPS, then apply Auto FPS to only 30-fps video or to both 30- and 60-fps video.
  • On iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 models, and iPhone SE (2nd generation): Turn on Auto Low Light FPS."

If that is not the case, or if the same thing happens when you record a clip with Auto FPS turned off, we'd recommend contacting Apple Support to take a closer look.

Cheers!
