choppy frame rate on Iphone 14 pro slow motion videos

Hello,

I just moved from 11P to 14P. I often record videos at 240fps, 720P.

I never had a problem with the 11Pro.

Now I see that sometimes the videos are recorded at less than 240fps (like 230), and in those cases it drops a frame every half a second or so.

Looking at the forum, it appear that this issue started probably with Iphone 12.

I can't still figure out why sometimes, in similar conditions, the phone records at a full 240; I suspect it has something to do with temperature, but I am not sure.

Any suggestion?

It's quite irritating that moving to a brand new (and expensive) phone I get issues I did not have before

Hi YossarianP,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! Since you're having an issue with the way video is recording on your iPhone, we recommend restarting your device to begin. Although simple, restarting can fix many issues. We also suggest ensuring the software is updated:

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.

The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. "

Outdated software can cause things to not work as expected. Should the behavior continue, let us know if it happens when recording in third party apps as well. Do you notice a change in the video itself or just the preview while recording? Knowing this will help isolate the issue.

Cheers!

I have updated the firmware, it did not help.

What helps temporarily is restarting the device.

However, after a few days the problem comes back.

Many other posters noticed this with previous releases of the phone:

It seems that the restart cleans up something, but only temporarily. Is the CPU workload? The RAM usage?

I don't expect you to know how to fix this, since it has not been fixed in years, but at least it should be brought to the attention of the developers, since it's clearly a bug ( a more advanced hardware has this issue, and the older not)
