Silent switch randomly turns off - iPhone 12 Pro Max

Hi this may be a purely physical thing happening, I.e catching as I put it in my packet or take it out. It has a silicone case.

However someone suggested doing this;- Which button do you continue to hold down after quickly pressing the volume buttons ?

Hello and thanks for your response. Yes with my phone I phone 12 Pro Max it is a physical button ring /silent switch. It seems that many people have had this problem when using a silicone case. Well I think I have solved the issue by cutting a small piece of clear plastic ( I used packaging that was used to hold household fuses ) slightly larger than the size of the switch and placing it over the switch opening inside the case. Then place the phone back in the case with the left side of the phone towards the switch opening in the first instance and then pressing the phone in place fully. This means that you of course can't use the button but I am quite happy as it has solved the problem of my phone going into silent mode without my knowledge.

Hello RayBrad,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you need help with an iPhone switch turning off. We completely understand why you'd reach out, and are happy to help.

If this is the physical ring/silent switch, then you would need to make sure nothing is rubbing the switch physically. If the phone becomes unresponsive, then a hard reset as described would then be valid.

Please have a look and let us know if this helps!

Cheers!
