Cannot Start Editing - in Photos

I have no idea what I've done or changed, but suddenly I cannot edit photos that have come from another source AKA my iPhone. An error code comes up that says: "Photos cannot load edits for this image".

Can anyone help please. I have a big project to do over Easter and I can't edit images as I need. TYIA x

Which system version is installed on your Mac? And where is your Photos Library stored? Is it in your Pictures folder or on an external volume?

Are you using iCloud Photos?

What has changed, before the problem first occurred? A system update? Did you move the Photos Library? Have you been running any cleaning software to free storage?
