If the names/titles of your apps appear blurred out after upgrading to the latest iOS version on your iPhone 14 Pro Max, it could be due to a variety of reasons. Here are a few possibilities and potential solutions:

1. Display Settings: Check your iPhone's display settings to ensure that the text size or bold text settings haven't been inadvertently adjusted. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and make sure it is set to an appropriate level. Similarly, check if the Bold Text option is enabled or disabled under the Display & Brightness settings.

2. Accessibility Settings: If you have enabled any accessibility features on your device, such as reducing transparency or enabling "Reduce Motion," it may affect the appearance of app names. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility and review the settings there. Try disabling any settings that might affect the visibility of app names.

3. Software Issues: Sometimes, upgrading to a new iOS version can introduce unforeseen bugs or glitches. If the above steps don't resolve the issue, it's possible that the blurry app names are a result of a software problem. In such cases, it's recommended to wait for subsequent iOS updates that may address the issue, or you can report the problem to Apple Support for further assistance.

4. Reset Home Screen Layout: If the issue persists, you can try resetting your home screen layout. Please note that this will rearrange your apps back to their default positions. To reset the home screen layout, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it would be advisable to contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for further assistance. They will have more specific troubleshooting steps and can provide guidance based on your device's specific configuration.

If a forced restart, and then trying a factory reset (backup, factory reset, and restore) does not resolve this, then contact Apple Support.

I’d suspect this iPhone has a weird hardware problem, if the reset doesn’t clear the issue.

Or a quite unusual iOS bug (or other critter), given the relative dearth of reports around here.

Try the forced restart first:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Then try the factory reset:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support (includes links to backup and restore.)

Many users who have updated to the latest iOS must have a similar issue if the issues stated by you are due to the iOS.

Unless you state what the issue is many in this forum may not be able to respond positively to the issue you are facing.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

I tried to power down the phone. The power button did not work at all. I turned it off with short tap on volume up then short tap on volume sown and then hold power. That did work to turn off the phone. After turning it back on, the blur was fixed, but only temporarily. It is back again.

I never had automatic dark mode on, but now will look into that suggested fix, in case somehow that got messed up too.

This all happened after a software update (quick response security update or some such thing)

Not lethal, since most icons I recognize, but still pretty annoying. Makes you wonder what else has gone wrong.
