I have set up my wife’s phone number as a trusted number so she can get verification codes for me to sign in to my account.
But the notifications pop up and then disappear within a second so she can’t access it to give to me.
How do we fix this?

Sharing a common AppleID is a bad practice for a number reasons; creating all sorts of issues … this example being just a fairly benign “tip” of what can become a “very nasty iceberg.”
Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support
Once you have separate AppleIDs, you can then use the very useful features of Family sharing.

Odd. Try restarting her phone. That can clear up odd issues and it doesn't hurt.
If it still doesn't work, refer to this document for ways to contact Apple --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support
Select your country (also look for "other" regions), then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Trusted Numbers receive verification codes as SMS texts (or voice calls) … so they shouldn’t disappear but rather should remain in Messages until deleted.
Are you two possibly sharing the same AppleID on two different phones ?
Yeah, we share the same Apple ID.
My son also gets the verification codes and they arrive as a pop-up notification, not as a SMS.
The pop-up doesn’t disappear for my son though. Just for my wife.
Maybe the fact my wife and I share an Apple ID has something to do with it?
