iMac heat issues using Safari?

I have an M1 iMac (2021). I have been having some heat issues that all point back to using Safari. My heat issues go away when I use Firefox. Anyone else seeing this happen?

Are you running any anti-virus or so-called "cleaning" apps? Third-party ad blockers? Safari extensions?

A suspected Safari extension issue is easy to evaluate. Turn them all off. One by one, turn them back on, testing before turning on the next. When the symptoms return, the last extension activated is the culprit.

With ad blockers there is emerging evidence that having more than one ad blocker can increase workload. That can in turn increase heat. Figure out which blocker you love the most and send the other to boarding school.

Take note of any sites that are worse about this heating than others. I have experienced some sites that demand more energy than others. I can drain the battery on my Macbook Pro rather quickly by leaving the Amazon home page open in the background, with a commensurate increase in heat production. In full disclosure I have not tried duplicating this in FireFox because I've used Safari since V1.0
