ipad: My phone number is "Unavailable for sign-in"

Just got a new iPad. Cloned data from old iPad; everything "seems" to be working ok. But noticed certain texts (e.g. from airlines, from credit card companies sending 2FA texts) were not coming in to this iPad. They did come in to my iPhone and my other iPad Pro. Noticed that in Settings, tapping on my AppleID at the top, and then tapping "Name, Phone Numbers, Email", that my phone number says "Unavailable for sign-in." Tapping the "info" icon next to the phone number, a pop-up says "This Phone Number Cannot be Used to Sign In" and tells me my number is already in use with another account. Is this why texts aren't arriving on this device?

I should add that my iPhone and my iPad Pro *also* show that my phone number is "Unavailable for sign-in" but texts are arriving to these devices just fine. Is there something about setting up a new iPad that I overlooked???

Ensure that you have explicitly enabled Text Message Forwarding for your new iPad on your iPhone...

On your iPhone:

Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding - set to ON - and explicitly enable your new iPad from the list of devices.

Also ensure that Messages in iCloud is enabled on both your iPhone and new iPad:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > Messages - set to ON

You may also need to check your WiFi Calling settings on both your iPad an iPhone:

My phone and ipad are doing/saying the same thing. My phone is acting strange. Calls I miss are being forwarded to another family member. Also iMessage is sending replies I send in group messages individually not, keeping them in the group thread. So weird…..just started happening about 2 weeks ago.

I tried the 2 suggestions from LotusPilot and that didn’t work.

Seeing the same thing here on my iphone SE 2nd gen.

Switched carriers and CANNOT get the "Unavailable for sign-in" to go away after extensive troubleshooting. Causing inconsistency with imesssage across my devices.

Tried

1) turning iMessage and Facetime off/on and rebooting iphone

2) Changing appleID password, signing out/in

3) Backing up iphone and restoring iphone
