How do we disable driving focus permanently?

The first time I discovered this feature was behind the wheel of a speeding car. Siri started answering questions with “I can’t do that on iPhone”. Something like that. I had never set up this “driving focus”, yet it seemed to be on by default and there was nothing obvious in settings to disable it. And yes, like many other people, I’m trying to turn this off at stop lights, pulling over, etc… I thought my phone wasn’t getting data service or something. Infuriating. Later, at home, I see that after I set up “driving focus” I can leave it on the default of “activate MANUALLY”. … it still activates. Everything in settings for this specific focus section is set to prevent this setting from even turning on. Even after deleting the focus. It’s still there. It’s very distracting. As someone that doesn’t text and drive or even use music apps while driving, this was the first time I thought I might have a wreck because my iPhone wasn’t working right. Other people?, it worries me. Plus it was extremely infuriating. I need this to stay off. I personally don’t need it and wouldn’t have ever used it. There’s not been a fix yet.

Well, I don’t have any problem. I have the Driving focus on my phone and watch, and it is disabled. And it doesn’t bug me about it.

Go to Settings/Screen Time/Content & Privacy Restrictions and check the status of Driving Focus. It should be set to Allow, then you should be able to control it from Focus.

And your lengthy reply didn’t answer one question. Do you have an MS Exchange email account from an employer or school on your phone, even if it is a personal phone?

Done that. It does not work. That’s the first thing we try after reading the same question being asked on Apple support. I’ve read all over this support site and searched other websites. On Apple support your answer keeps coming up while ignoring the fact that it happens even when we haven’t set up or added (+) the focus. Even after adding it and setting it to manual, it still activates. After deleting it, it still activates like before when we first noticed something was wrong with Siri. That’s the point of me asking.

No. It’s a personal device. Not associated with or locked down with any admin/work software or anything unusual. I hoped the new 16.4.1 update would finally resolve this issue but it’s still there. I wondered if the Apple Watch could be causing it to activate since you cannot delete the driving focus from the watch at all. Only turn off “mirror iPhone”. The driving focus option isn’t available by default in the focus app. You can’t find it by starching settings until you set it up. What’s dangerous is that it activates without setting it up while driving and you have to add it to disable it. … and that doesn’t work. Deleting it doesn’t work unfortunately. Like I said I. The initial post, I found it very distracting when Siri couldn’t answer simple questions. I don’t really care that it happens to me. I now know that it’s an issue and I’m aware of what’s happening. When someone like me who’s a stickler about people texting and driving, playing with their phones while driving, etc…is pulling over at the gas station trying to figure out why my iPhone, Siri, wasn’t explicitly saying that the reason it couldn’t answer a question was because I was driving, but instead just said something like “I can’t do that on iPhone” when normally it can. I can’t imagine the scenarios of people fumbling while driving down the interstate. I needed to know the hours to my pharmacy and I’m having to unlock my phone (by looking at it) and manually search. It’s seems to me that it’s just badly implemented. I’m not the only person who sees it this way. I never use any focus setting. If I don’t need to use my phone I turn it off or silence it.

If you don't want to use Drive Focus, it's easiest to just delete it.

Go to Settings Focus Driving → Scroll to the bottom and select Delete Focus.

This will stop Driving Focus from activating. If you want to use Driving again, go to Settings Focus, and tap the little "+" in the top right corner, find Driving in the list, and tap.

That is strange. Because when the Driving profile is deleted and does not appear in the list of Focus profiles, it should not be able to activate - as it is not there. I have deleted Driving Focus from my iPhone, and am using CarPlay, and I have never experienced it activating itself.

This is a "long shot" - if you go to:

SettingsScreen TimeContent & Privacy Restrictions, scroll to Driving Focus. What does it say on there?

If Driving Focus is deleted from the list, then unfortunately there are not many other options. Therefore, I would recommend that you contact Apple Support directly. They have several options - for example, you can share your screen with them so they can see your settings and guide you around. In such a case as yours, this is probably the best solution.

Also, I drive with my Mac in a bag. Does it have driving focus also? If so, could it be causing it to activate. It’s not even turned on. If it is like the Apple watch which has a driving focus setting that I just discovered, (which btw, took forever to find as It’s in the general tab on the watch only and not the watch app on the phone), that you cannot delete, could it be somehow changing things? Thanks.
