I received a text from a number I didn’t know. The text had an image. I wasn’t thinking and touched the image so I could see it better. The picture expanded. I closed out of it. I did NOT click the download button. Could I be hacked because I expanded the image?

The short answer is, no.

You can be completely calm. Your iPhone cannot be hacked by receiving a picture via SMS. If you do not know the sender, you can simply delete the message. The only thing you have to be careful about is not giving out the code for your iPhone or your Apple ID to others, so it should be reasonably safe.
