Applications Folder Showing Wrong Size

I'm running Ventura 13.3.1 on a MacBook Air M2 2022.

My Applications folder says that it is over 100 Gb, when I "Get Info" on my applications folder is says that there is only 40 Gb inside.

What's going on? I have updated my OS and tried clearing all caches folders as well as moving all my adobe documents to an external hard drive.

I have no more space on my scratch disk and need to clear out the mysterious 60 Gb that are hiding in my applications.

If in doubt try something like OmniDiskSweeper for a GUI to get a good look at itemized file size:

What is the mechanism by which you are learning of the 100 GB size?

What is a scratch disk?

need to clear out the mysterious 60 Gb that are hiding in my applications.

I assume that what you mean is that your hard drive is full. Regardless, you are wasting your time looking at Applications. The sizes of files and folders is not straightforward. The size of your applications folder actually could be both 40 and 100 GB. There could be 100 GB of data, but compressed onto on 40 GB on disk.

The only place you should look is in Disk Utility. That will tell you exactly how big your hard drive is to begin with, and how much actual free space you have.
