Not quite sure what “out of control” means but you’ll have to make sure they didn’t figure out your passcode and are disabling the restrictions. But that may not be the case.

Being a kid a few years ago, I found that restrictions were incredibly easy to bypass—a lot of the time my parents would update the restrictions and all of the restrictions would turn off, so make sure you click around on your kid’s device to make sure the restrictions work before you use them. For example, on my iPhone I can download games 12+ and under (which is the restriction working) but on my iPad I can download games rated 17+. (I highly recommend using Ask to Buy so you don’t find your kid playing a more mature game.) …Nice work, Apple.

I will also warn you that there is Siri Search—this gives them some access to the web, and even with restrictions, they can see webpage previews and (with iOS 15 and up) search images on the web. It can pull up inappropriate or scary pictures/movies/webpage previews too, so be aware of that. I don’t think you can disable it.

All that to say—Apple needs to fix their restrictions, and you should monitor their devices very closely so they don’t get into trouble or traumatize themselves with nasty photos. If they still find loopholes, it’s mainly on Apple for making such a faulty system. Definitely report your concerns to them so they can hopefully fix it soon.

Does any of this help you?
