How do I prevent iphone from displaying podcast controls when the screen is locked

You cannot prevent the Player Widget from appearing on the lock screen when you play a Podcast or other content. You can minimize the cover image by tapping on it so that it disappears into the Player Widget.
If you want to remove the Player Widget completely, close the Podcast app...
However, this will also stop the podcast you are listening to.
