Shared Album order of photos

I have made albums with MANY photos in each. Each album is about a member of my family and includes photos of artifacts, letters, diplomas, etc. in addition to photos. In each album I have arranged the photos in a certain order, as well as I could do chronologically. I want them stay in that order when I move them to a Shared Album to share with cousins and siblings. I've found through some practicing with pretend albums with just a few photos, that my order will not be maintained in the shared album.

I know from reading someone's post that I can make a slide show of the album (and not do a shared album) and send that by way of Dropbox.

However, is there a way to make the shared album photos stay in my chosen order? If so, I could share it in a Shared Album, and the relatives could add other photos to it for me to see. Not so with a slide show, right?

Also, if my relative doesn't use Apple can she even open a Shared Album?

There is not a way to specify the order of photos in a shared album. You can let Apple know that you'd like this to be an option by leaving feedback at this website:

Regarding sharing albums with people who do not own Apple products, here is some relevant information from a support article on this topic:

"You can also share albums with friends and family who don't use iCloud. Just open a shared album that you created, click the People button in the toolbar, and turn on Public Website. Your photos publish to a website that anyone can see in an up-to-date web browser."

Shared albums are automatically sorted by the order you add the photos to the shared album. If you want a shared album to be sorted as your album, you have to add the photos one-by-one, individually, as you want to see them in the shared album. But the order ay change, if someone adds a comment to a shared album, so it would not be worth the effort to add the photos in exactly the order you want them to appear, if yo allow commnts on your photos.

You could change the dates of your photos before you share them. Consider to change the date of the photos to reflect the chronlogical sort order you want in the shared album. Starting with macOS 12 Bug Sur and iOS 15, shared albums can be sorted automatically by the date.
