Apple studio display unexpected shutdown

I have had an Apple studio display connected to an Apple mac studio M1 since mid Jan 23. Recently the display has start to unexpectedly shut down and restart. Initially this was just a random occurrence that was easily missed, but now this has started to happen repeatedly. As I have a second monitor connected I can see that it shuts down completely as everything switches to the second display. Both the Mac OS and the display firmware have the latest updates. Has anyone else experienced this? I am not sure whether this is a hardware or software error. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have tried that and it makes no difference. The only other devices connected are a SSD drive and a tablet both of which have been disconnected to make sure that they are not the cause. The first thing I did was remove a device from the display and have not reconnected it. So the display is free of any devices. I have just replaced the cable between the Apple display and the studio and at the moment it is working ok but I have been here before and the problem may reoccur in an hour or even up to a couple of days. Thanks for your assistance.

I've had a similar problem with 2 ViewSonic 2756-4k (USB-C connection) monitors starting in 2023. The Primary monitor would shut down and never recover, shifting all the active windows and icons to the secondary screen. At first I thought there was a RAM issue since I was rendering some very complex video. I replaced the primary monitor connection to a HDMI to Mac Studio HDMI, and left the secondary with the USB-C. The shutting down problem has stopped (for now).

The only problem (and has been for 2 years) is that on any restart, the primary monitor must be turned on first, or else the primary monitor settings will move to which ever monitor starts first no matter what the settings are on the Mac. The same is true from a wake-up screen.

Hi there: I have started experiencing the same issue with my display [it is connected to a MacBrook Pro via an Ascrono decking station] for the last two weeks.

I have taken both my laptop and display to the Apple Store with no resolution of the issue. I even posted videos of the issue on #Apple with no reaction from that outlet either.

Unsure as to how this can be resolved short of taking a sledgehammer to the screen [the neurotic New Yorker in me -lol].
