The status bar at the bottom of the finder window shows the incorrect amount of free space. I have deleted about 1TB of files, and it hasn't updated it, even after a restart (and resetting the PRAM).
When I go into "System settings" it tells me that my Mac is using 5.19TB of 4 TB used!!
How do i get it to correctly report the available storage space, please?
I'm using a 2020 Retina 5K 27 inch iMac with 4TB storage, Ventura 13.2.1
How did you delete the files?
If the files are in the Trash, then you also need to Empty the Trash.
The Apple > About this Mac > Storage info eye candy, may not be totally accurate.

It might also help, to startup in Safe Mode followed by a normal restart.

Dig thru the OmniDiskSweeper sections and look for the excess baggage.
Report back any oddities. Do not delete files using OmniDiskSweeper.
OmniDiskSweeper shows you the files on your drive, largest to smallest, and lets you quickly Trash or open them.

Try creating a test user account on the Mac and checking the storage from the test account.

Yes I emptied the trash, and restarted the computer ... in safe mode. Then a normal restart.
Still erroneous report of storage!
Thanks for that suggestion, but i really want my Mac OS to give me the right answer to the storage, as it has for the last few years :)
