Can an iphone be hacked by a battery case

Hi,

Can the iPhone be hacked/hijacked by malicious software in a battery case since it uses a lightning port?

I've been researching this and found nothing definitive. But McAfee a while ago came out with some tips that USB chargers in public areas could be malicious and take or install malware onto devices, is it possible that hacking could occur this way as well?

Thanks!

Oddly Shows iPhone 6, but it's incorrect, it's a pro max with iOS 16.3.1
