How to take photos and save with higher megapixels?

Why do photos taken with my 14 pro max result in lower megapixels than the lens ratiing that I am using? For example, my 12 mp produces photos between 1 mp and 3 mp....

iPhone 15 photos are not captured 24 MP size Hi, Good Evening. The iPhone 15 , have a 24MP main camera.. Why are the pictures are taking with the main and telephoto lens, having 18MP(for the main) and 9MP (front ) as result, and not the full quality? Photos automatically zoom out to 0.5x After updating to iOS 17 whenever I take a photo slightly zoomed out (to 0.9x, 0.8x, etc.) and I go to view the photo immediately after taking it, the photo renders and zooms all the way out to 0.5x showing way more in frame than I wanted it to. It also won’t revert back to the original no matter what I do. Is anybody else experiencing this issue?

Are you seeing 1-3 MegaPixel files, or 1-3 MegaByte files? If the latter, that would be normal.
