Visual voicemail doesn’t work with SIM

My visual voicemail does not work with my SIM card installed. It works without SIM card however. This has happened each month for the last year. I always have to call the carrier (total

wireless) however they spend hours troubleshooting it and always have to ask to elevate it. I’m over dealing with them. I can’t go into a physical store either. How can I troubleshoot this myself?
