Adult Website Viruses

Hi everyone. I have been looking more into security of the iphone and everything but I came across a question I had. I have looked at adult content from sites such as pornhub on google before and could watching videos on these platforms infect your iphone with anything or no? Thanks

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hi thanks for the reply! Is the iphone prone to get these viruses from just visiting these sites or no because i’ve heard it takes a lot to hack an iphone. Thanks

That’s hilarious. No.

What you will get are scams and phishing pop-ups there. And most everywhere else, of course. But to be very blunt, one of the better sources of malware right now is Google. Yes, Google. Too much of what is offered in Google search results is malware. Malware intended to look like legitimate apps. The malware websites can rank higher than the real websites, too.

Keep your iPhone updated, review and resolve the Apple security recommendations, etc.

Please stop watching entertainment programs and the absolutely breathless social media postings for technical advice.

If whatever you’re reading even contains the word “virus” or “hacker”, assume it’s spam, scam, advertisement, or entertainment, until proven otherwise.

Usual way we get hacked is we get hacked. Us.. Not our iPhone. Us. We get fooled, phished, scammed. We re-use passwords. We neglect backups. We don’t enable two factor. We don’t update our devices.

Is iPhone immune to malware? No. But all of what has known to have been used and that has been detected (or has been identified in political disclosures) is very expensive and very targeted, so far. Investigative journalists, political dissidents, national-level political opponents, those with access to classified or sensitive data, or access to great wealth, and senior members of government and defense and higher-profile organizations. If that’s you, get specialized advice. For the rest of us, see above.
