Early 2015 Mac Air having battery issues. Charge count: ~ 1800 (!) Was working while plugged in only. Now only shows battery icon. If charger removed, shows plug and charger, so I think charger is working? Have tried the various resets suggested. Does this mean I will never have access to this computer unless I replace the battery?

It does sound like you need a battery replacement. However, if you haven't already we recommend leaving your MacBook charging over night, followed by the steps in the following support article: Get help with your Mac laptop battery - Apple Support

Thanks! I was hoping there was a way to power it on without device just to get the files off it, but it has almost double the number of charges so service it is!
