Album Cover Size.

Please tell me if the embedded album art can be different sizes?

I've bought music from itunes store and I've only come across 600x600 resolution. But some users say that you can get album art for itunes store in a much larger resolution. For example, a friend of mine bought the album Iron Maiden - Senjutsu and the artwork was 1400x1400 resolution. And someone had 3000x3000 resolution.

Why is this the case?

Windows, Windows 10

It has nothing to do with your English, I do understand what you mean. I believe that I have addressed every point that you made. Perhaps you are so focused on finding out the reason for the difference that you are failing to appreciate that we, as the music-buying public, are unlikely to ever find out why there are these differences. Even if you do find out, that doesn't change the facts.

However, you now mention that your acquaintances (with different sized artwork) are in another country. This may be an important difference.

As stated, album art is decided by the record company that owns the recording, not by Apple. Responsibility for the artwork may be dependant upon the country in which the album is sold, so one country may use different sized artwork or even a different picture. There are no definitive rules that cover every album in every country. In fact, as I have already suggested, the same album may have minor differences (especially with artwork), even in the same country.

I think you may have to simply accept these things as they are. If larger sized artwork is that important to you, find a suitable picture online and paste it into the Artwork tab for the songs, if the songs allow that to happen..

Embedded album art can be different sizes.

For the same album? Perhaps the band (or the record company) decided to change the artwork for some reason and the someone you've heard about bought the revised album. Or perhaps the person with the 3000x3000 artwork obtained the picture from somewhere else and simply pasted the artwork in to replace the original.

I doubt that anyone here can give you a definitive answer. It could be any one of the following:

    • that's just the way it is (it's one of those things)
    • the record company or band changed the artwork
    • the message about the someone you've heard about has been corrupted in the re-telling
    • the someone you've heard about doesn't really have such large artwork

Large artwork will not be copied to a portable device (iPhone etc.) in that format. It will be reduced in size.

Yes.

I have just added an album from CD to my iTunes Library:

    • iTunes did not find the artwork
    • another CD ripper I use did find the artwork and it was 1200x1200
    • a CD cataloguing programme that i use found the artwork and it was 599x516

One moment came to mind.

I was buying Sum 41 Order in Decline in 2019, and of the 10 tracks, half of them had 600x600 embedded artwork and the other half had 1425x1425 resolution. I was looking at the information on the Windows computer.

What I mean by that is that it's not at all necessary that the inline cover has to be exactly 600x600? There is no one hundred percent standard in the resolution of embedded covers? When buying music from itunes store.

ps: sorry for my bad english

The decision about artwork is not made by iTunes/Apple, it will be the company that owns the recording (the record company) or perhaps the band who made the music.

No, it is not necessary for artwork to be exactly 600x600. If I look for my own artwork, I might use 300x300 on one album and 600x600 on a different album, it simply depends on what I find online.

No, there is no standard, and the decision about artwork for music sold in the iTunes Store is not made by Apple, it is made by the record company that owns the rights to the music.

Record companies do not adhere to a standard. They can be inconsistent about the genre of the music, lazy about the text that they type in and as for the artwork, it appears it can be inconsistent even on one album.

From my own experience, I think every three-CD album that I own has one disc with different information to the other two. A typical example is that discs one and two might be titled "Album Title", while disc three could be "Album title Disc 3". What this will do is split the 3-CD set apart, with discs one and two as one album and disc three as a separate album, even when the tags state disc x of 3.

If you want higher resolution artwork, copy and paste it from wherever you can get it. Remember though, larger resolution pictures take up more storage space (even on your computer) and very large resolution pictures will be scaled down to a lower resolution when added to an iPhone etc.

Final clarification.

Do you think the content purchased from itunes store could be slightly different in the Windows version and the MacOS version (iPhone, MacBook, etc.)?

That is, as I wrote that my acquaintance's covers were of higher resolution (half of the album was 600x600 and the other half was 1425x1425), could it be because his tracks were purchased using "itunes for iphone" (or whatever is the right one?) and mine were purchased through the Windows program?

Again, thank you very much for your explanations.

First community that really helps with the question).

Have a good day and good luck.

I guess my bad English doesn't allow you to understand what I mean.))

The question is this:

I buy a song (or album) from the itunes store. The file already has the cover art built into it. So, this built-in cover itself can be larger than 600x600? If yes, what can it depend on? Because I get exclusively 600x600 when buying, but my acquaintances from other countries sometimes get other sizes of resolution.

I'm not asking about what size cover I can insert into the file (track). I know how to do that and I know where to get those covers). The question is about the originally inserted covers, which are in the files by default when you buy them in the itunes store.

Thanks for your patience.))
