How to change the orange colored Ventura Start up screen?

You can’t change that, but you can avoid it.

I rarely shutdown, so I almost never see it. When I do, I see it for about three seconds.

On Ventura 13.5.2, I have my choice of wall paper replace that gawdy Apple default wallpaper. I am the only user and have Guest disabled in Settings : Users & Groups. I use my VikingOSX avatar for my name icon. And I have automatic login disabled. For Settings : Wallpaper, I have my own custom paper assigned:

When my M2 Mac mini boots up, the above screen is shown with a round VikingOSX icon and empty password field centered on the screen. If Guest is not disabled, or you have more than one user, you will be greated by Apple's blatant wallpaper instead.

Well, you can do what I do and simply not shut down the computer except under very unusual circumstances.

If your iMac is at home then set the login to open directly into your user account without a password. Also set the sleep function to not require a password to open from sleep.

If you iMac is in a public setting, i.e. school, work, etc., then that option is a not a wise one.

Who stares at their sign in screen when one can quickly dismiss it by entering their password? 😉

Ironically, on my M2 mini pro, the startup screen is my preferred wallpaper, and on my 16-in MacBook Pro M1 Pro, also running Ventura 13.3.1, it get the screaming yellow zonker startup screen, and the preferred wall paper after the password.

To the best of my knowledge, Apple doesn't make it possible for you to remove that screen. And physics makes it impossible for you to remove it from the spectrum.

Keep your eyes closed while the computer is starting up.

I honestly have no idea what that wallpaper on the start-up screen is on my MBA.

For the brief time the login screen is up it's no big deal.

No.

It’s not just the start up screen. The desktop background in Ventura is neon, retina-frying, orange. Someone really hates us.
