Photos: Map location is correct, but building name is wrong

Photos I take at multiple buildings in New York City show the correct location, but all photos show an incorrect place name (all the same building several blocks away)

I can manually assign a completely different city and state, and the photo accepts the change.

If I then try to change it back by inputting the correct address manually, the pop-up menu will auto-fill the correct place name. When I press enter or click to accept the change, the incorrect place name returns.

The location is stored as latitude and longitude. Photos uses a lookup table to find the coordinates if you enter an address or place name, and it will try to work backwards from the latitude and longitude to display an appropriate address or place name for you. But it doesn't know what you're taking a picture of, just the coordinates of the position of the camera. And in a city they're often more than one thing of interest there. The name it chooses is just the most likely place that's more interesting to post than the latitude and longitude.

If you want to record a specific building name, the caption is a handy place for that. I often include historical information there, as well.

The Photos lookup table seems to know the correct building name and street address--both auto-fill when I try entering them manually. Press enter, and the change is not accepted.

Much of NYC is also labeled oddly. Points in Manhattan are designated "New York, North Hudson, United States"--I've never heard the "North Hudson" identifier used anywhere else.

If I type a specific address in Brooklyn, the address is replaced by "Long Island⁩, ⁨Brooklyn⁩, ⁨New York Metropolitan Area⁩, ⁨United States⁩". The pin on the map thumbnail remains correct, but the place names are not IMO useful for searching/cataloging.

Apple Maps doesn't have these place glitches, so it's specific to Photos. Wonder if it's intentionally obfuscating, or just sloppy/corrupted data.

It is a pity, that Photos is not using the direction the camera is pointing at, or at least displaying the direction. The iPhones and other cameras are recording the direction with the GPS, and it would help a lot to identify the buildings, when we are on a historic site with several interesting buildings.

While dreaming of potential improvements, it would be nice, if the Info would be showing the altitude as a a part of the location, not just longitude and latitude. It is a lot of extra work, to find out the altitude, where we have been when taking a photo on a hiking trail.
