I go to the iTunes store on my Mac using the Music app. Suddenly, I have to sign up for Apple Music just to listen to a preview of a song! Is this right? Am I missing something? Wasn't the case a week or two ago!

When I search a song in Music, I can play the song.
Then the "sign up or else" panel comes up, and you're left hanging.
Where do you see that?
Can you make a screenshot?
Maybe you need to:
Go to Account -> Show my account
or
Go to Account -> Sign out -> then sign in again.
I found the problem. When you click the Search field, you get
Then type in the search field a song that you are looking for.
When you find a song that you are looking for, click the Play button to listen.
Ah, you are using a trackpad. That explains the taps you mention. Could the problem be that I am using a mouse, and need to use a trackpad? I've seen stranger things happen on computers. (I am not kidding.)
This is weird. This means I can't purchase anything from the store unless I sign up for Apple Music. Maybe I'll call Apple Care. No, sir/ma'am; I don't like it!
I found the problem. When you click the Search field, you get
Your Library | Apple Music | iTunes Store
in the upper right-hand corner.
But it gets covered if you click either the triple bar or the quotation bubble. Nice. Hiding things yet again, continuing to make the macOS user interface worse.
I signed out and in.
Same thing.
This what I get when I click the arrowhead at the left edge of the bar of the song I want to preview.
Forgot details: macOS 12.6.4

Close the Apple Music screen -> tap the X.
Then try again:
Tap Music (Dock iMac) -> tap iTunes Store (Sidebar) -> tap in Search field (top left) -> search a song.
I am on my Mac.
From iPhone -> tap iTunes Store -. then tap Search icon.
No Apple Music.
Try this:
Tap Music (Dock iMac) -> tap iTunes Store (Sidebar) -> tap in Search field (top left) -> search a song.
That's what I've been doing, tried it again. It works fine until you click the play arrowhead to play the song. Then the "sign up or else" panel comes up, and you're left hanging.
Dock and tap? Are you on a Mac or a phone?
Anyway, I get the same thing: it still doesn't work.
Tried my trackpad. No good.
