How do I edit image on macOS?

How do I edit an image on macOS to be used as a representative icon that conveys that the objects on a screen on the iPhone app that the icon represents will all be deselected when I tap the button the icon image represents.

I think maybe to give it the right look I could take the icon that represents the objects on the screen and redraw it so that the lines are drawn as dashes or dots.
