I absolutely hate the new Do Not Disturb feature and am incredibly frustrated that I cannot simply disable it. Is there no way of removing it? I want to control my own coms and do not need Apple to control it for me. Thank you!

I only use the ”Sleep” focus mode and I want to delete the “Do not disturb” focus mode.

That is not currently an option. Are you using the sleep-tracking feature? If you're not, you could simply delete the Sleep focus and just use the Do Not Disturb.

My reason is simple; to be able to toggle the sleep mode on, I first have to navigate past the do not disturb mode. By default this is the main focus mode, there is no way of setting a different focus mode to be the default. Because of this, I need to long press the control centre focus button and then toggle the other mode on. Instead of simply tapping the focus mode button if Sleep is my only focus mode.

This is what makes me think you're not using the Sleep tracking function. If you were, the Sleep focus would come on automatically. So, once again, delete every focus, but Do Not Disturb and set that up for use when you sleep.

I hope Apple engineers are aware of this.

My iPhone 8, after owning it fir under two years without any issues, started kept turning Do Not Disturb on automatically. I was missing important texts coming in. After two weeks with this issue, unable to fix it, I purchased a new iPhone 13, but the issue is still there. I have googled this problem which countless others have. The one video on a person showing how to fix it on iphone13, my iPhone 13 does not have the same screen to slide the Di Nit Disturb permanently off. Another online person also said his iPhone 13 does not have the same screen to turn off the slide as the video showed. HELP!

I have old IPhone 11 ProMax .. Have been trying to get the DND icon turned OFF that showed up a few wks ago off my IPad.. tried everyone's suggestions nothing worked.. This morning in Googling someone suggested .. if all else fails .. "Ask Siri to 'Turn Do Not Disturb OFF" . I never use Siri but I did " Ask Siri.." and the DND immediately turned OFF and disappeared off rt. corner of IPad.. DND was never on my IPhone.. Maybe try the same "Ask Siri" with your phone.... it's just a thought.

What a joke… l have done AII THOSE THINGS and OUT OF THE BLUE IT STILL JUST ACTIVATES IT. Doesn’t show symbol on screen, doesn’t show it is activated when you pull down control and when you look at “focus setting it doesn’t show it is activated but it is STILL activated and sending calls direct to voicemail!!! STOP this mess. I HATE FOCUS and want it gone!!!!

If you don't see Focus active anywhere, it's not active and the cause of the problem is something else.

You can't permanently delete it but someone above gave a detailed description of how to turn it off! Lawrence Finch is his name.

Do Not Disturb is a permanent feature of iOS, but you don’t have to use it. If you really have no use for a feature that blocks notifications, alerts and calls at certain times (such as in performances, meetings, class, etc) you can disable it.

Do these steps ONCE:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Focus
  • Tap on any Focus settings that you will never use and remove them (you can add them back later if you change your mind, and even create new, custom ones)
  • Tap Do Not Disturb
  • Tap People
  • Tap Allow Notifications From
  • If anyone is listed who should not call you when DND is on delete them; if you don’t want any calls from anyone, any time, delete all people
  • Tap the dropdown next to Allow Calls From and choose Allowed People Only
  • Optionally, tap on Apps, then Allow Notifications From and don’t add any apps.

All of the above is a one-time setup. After that, turn DND on or off with the Control Center Focus button (see green circle in image below). You can optionally set one or more schedules by going to:

Settings/Focus/Do Not Disturb/Set a Schedule.

I copied and pasted his response in case it doesn't show up for you

I saw someone mention smart activations. Can you elaborate on this and where I might be able to figure out if this is what's happening? If you're referring to the 'personal, sleep, work' modes in the focus setup, they are disabled already.

Go to Settings>Focus and select the one you're having a problem with, for example "Personal". Tap on it. Go about halfway down the screen. Under "Set a Schedule" you will see "Smart Activation". Make sure it's set to "Off". Do that on every Focus you have.

You cannot disable it completely. You can, however, turn it off. Instructions have been provided repeatedly in this thread. I suggest you start at the beginning.

This is the worst (and least intuitive) feature I have encountered on iPhone since its release. Hey Apple UI designers, you messed up. Take the do not disturb out or make it easy to turn off PERMANENTLY.

I would point out that the features that Apple has been adding to the Focus, formerly Do Not Disturb, are ones that people have been begging for for years. But, if you don't want to use Focus, you don't have to.

Why can't you turn it off?

Go to the Control Center and tap on the small round picture icon on the Focus button. Don't press and hold; just tap.

Or, say, "Hey, Siri, turn off Do Not Disturb".
