You might want to check that your iPhone is not in "silent" mode:

(If the Ring / Silent switch shows orange,

it means your iPhone is in silent mode)

Use the side, Home, and other buttons on your iPhone - Apple Support

Also check "do not disturb" is not on.

ie: Check Do Not Disturb.

Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure it's off.

and

Check that "mute" is not on, and that the volume is loud enough:

While on a call on iPhone – Apple Support 

Eg:

you can switch the audio to the speaker phone

or

"Adjust the audio during a call:

To change the volume, press the volume buttons on the side of iPhone"
