Signal bars disappearing on my iPhone

For something like this, it may help to install any available carrier and iOS updates for your device. Try restarting again after any updates before testing the wireless signal again. 

• Update your iPhone or iPad.
• Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad.
• Restart your iPhone.

If the issue continues, can you check the Control Center to find out if the signal bars are shown there?

• Use and customize Control Center on iPhone.

I just had to disconnect WiFi (would function correctly with 5g icon) then connect WiFi back and the icons will show correctly

The signal is fine, as the OP said everything still works but after the iOS 17 upgrade the signal (both cell and wifi) icons just disappear. Open an app, and there they are again, go back to the home screen, gone. Restarting the phone will restore them for a little while but eventually they will start disappearing again after a few days.

This is a bug.

Reseting the device only helps temporarily. The question is, is the phone getting phone calls while it's on sleep mode?

same problem with bars disappearing but that causes no incoming or out going calls
