bluteooth messages in car

I have a 2022 Subaru Legacy Touring XT.  Recently I have lost the ability to have messages come through to my car’s infotainment screen from my iPhone Xr.  My contacts and the ability to make and receive phone calls are working.  In corresponding with Subaru, I am being told that this is a problem with iOS version 16.4.  Is anyone experiencing this?  Or, does anyone know of a solution?  Is Apple aware of this?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

I've been looking but I still haven't found a fix. In desperation I purchased an Ottocast U2-Air from Amazon. It converts the infotainment equipment to Wireless CarPlay so there is no need to use a cable. It is a very easy install and works very well. It is also very small and easily fits in the area below the USB outlets. I was reluctant to have to purchase this but messages work and I no longer leave my iPhone in the car as it stays in my pocket.

Hello Schwartz40,

i think it's ios related since it worked fine before updating 3 iphones to 16.4. My daughter has an older iphone that can not be updated to ios 16 and that is still working with text messages.

i don't like it either to connect te iphone woth a cable.

i tried with a samsung phone and that also works fine.

i tried another outback 22 at the dealer, same problem.

My wife has an outback 2015 and there the 3 iphones with ios 16.4 are working fine with bluetooth.

So in conclusion the infotainment of the outback 22 worked fine before the ios update, the only thing that has changed in my situation is the update to ios 16.4 on 3 iphones (mine, my wife and my son). And in combination with that specific infotainment gives problems.

I have tried several thing, from resetting and reinstalling iphone to resetting infotainment, nothing works.

My Subaru dealer had the infotainment firmware updated to the last version today, still not ok.

I'm sure that downgrading to ios 16.2 or 16.3 will fix the problem, but that has been made impossible by Apple.

See my post from 2 hours ago for more information. If i find anything i will keep in touch.

kind regards,

I have the same problem and posted it one hour ago.

i tested with 3 iphones with ios 16.4, worked fine before 16.4, now it does not work anymore on the 3 iphones. My daughter has an older iphone which can not be updated to ios 16 and this keeps working.

see my post of remi60.

if i find a solution i will let you know.

But i don't like my chances.

I tried my iPhone (with 16.4) in a 2023 Subaru Legacy and the Messages work. I went a few rounds with Apple Technical Support and didn't get a resolution. I also tried my iPhone in a 2022 Forester and Messages works there too. I still think it is a Subaru issue. Both Subaru and Apple said to use CarPlay but I don't want to have to take my phone out of my pocket and connect a cable every time I get in my car.

Thank you.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will look into that.

Meanwhile I heard nothing from Apple anymore.

The Subaru dealer told me there will not be a fix for years as there are 3 parties involved, namely Apple, Subaru and Harmon Cardon.

So another way of telling me to leave it as it is. It's a real pitty and it will probably effect my next purchase.

Kind regards,
