Apple TV asking me to start a trial when I have a subscription

I was watching a show, tried to go to the next episode and it asked me to “try for free” and get a subscription. I already have a subscription of 6.99/month. I clicked try it free button anyways but it said I already had a subscription. I tried all the recommended fixes. I restarted my iPhone, I delete and reinstalled the app and I logged out and logged back in. It still is not working. How do I fix this? Surely not going to keep paying for a subscription I cannot use!

This happened on my Apple TV and I was able to fix by going to Settings > Users and Accounts > [User] > Subscriptions.

I had to sign in with my Apple ID then it loaded all my subscriptions.

Went back to Apple TV+ and everything was working normally.

I noticed the same issue tonight, asking me to sign up for a trial when i already had a sub.

Thankfully i was able to fix it quick, it had to do with verifying my payment method.

I went to settings > manage my payment settings and it said my card needed to be verified, even though it was the card i'd been using since creating the account.

Once i verified, which only took a few seconds surprisingly. I logged out and back in and everything was fine again.

Hope this helps someone.

This is really frustrating, and reading through the comments it sounds like there a various things to try depending on the device you're using. In my case, I was getting having the 'free trial' issue on my apple tv box even though I was signed in on my mobile device, and other things were syncing (like photos) via iCloud. I checked the updates section in 'settings>system>software updates' and even though auto update was enabled, I clicked 'Update Software' - and found that there was an update that the system hadn't automatically applied. I ran the update, went back to Apple TV and the issue was fixed.

The answer to this whole issue is to have the original member who signed up with apple

- go to his/her settings

-select their name/apple ID/icloud/media/ purchases

-scroll down until you find “family sharing “

-add in family member and their email address

-this should then show up in the same place on the new family members settings.

  • follow any additional prompts
  • you should not be asked to sign in or asked to buy a subscription
  • this worked like a charm. But you gave to have the original persons original email and

Hello JenM46,

You've already taken great steps to try resolving the behavior you're experiencing with your subscription. We recommend ensuring your subscription is active by following the guidance listed here: If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

How to cancel a subscription on your iPhone or iPad
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Subscriptions.
4. Tap the subscription.
5. Tap Cancel Subscription. You might need to scroll down to find the Cancel Subscription button. If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled.

Should the behavior persist please reach out for assistance in your region here: Get Support

Regards.

To fix the problem of not being able to sign into Apple TV,

*Have the person who signed up for the Account with Apple TV go to their settings,

  • scroll down to Family Sharing

this should show tgat person’s name

  • have that person add you and your information
  • this should then show up in your settings as family Sharing
  • that should do it! You should not need to sign in to Apple TV , it should open when you tsp on the app.
