Is there a way to shuffle my photos in macbook album for slideshow so similar photos are not back to back?

Are you asking about a slideshow on a Mac or on a mobile device (iPhone, iPad)? Sorry, this is not quite clear, as your question is in the Photos forum forum for mobile devices, but the signature is showing a MacBook Pro.
On a Mac there is no automatic shuffling available. If you are creating slideshow project, you can drag the slides manually into the order you want, with limitations, as Photos will rearrange them somewhat to fill the templates for the slides. On older system versions we could use an Apple Script to shuffle the photos in an album for a random slideshow. The older scripts are only working, if the photos are selected in a top level album (Script: Shuffle Photos for an Instant Sli… - Apple Community).
On an iPhone or iPad arrange the photos in an album, as you like them, then select the rearranged photos, tap (...), then select Slideshow. Play videos and slideshows in the Photos app on iPhone – Apple Support (UK)
