Container Disk 3

Why did this show up. My Samsung back up hard disk (which I bought specifically for my new Mac mini based on Apple recommended site) disappeared and now I have the Container Disk 3. I can no longer back up to Time Machine. It is incredibly frustrating. Can anyone explain this?

can I have Time Machine use my iCloud storage drive for my back ups? I have a G-Drive ArmorATD disk, purchased from my local Apple store, connected to my MacBook Pro (Monterrey 12.5.1). It has stopped showing up as a connected drive, even after I really really carefully 'eject' it before shutting down my laptop for its nightly 'let's just start again' rest period. This is the third drive over which I have lost control and want to 'stop the insanity'. difference between AppleAPFSMedia and Container disk Hello, I formatted my external WD 5T drive to 2 APFS partitions, 3T and 2T respectively. In Disk Utility, View - Show All Devices, it shows one in AppleAPFSMedia and the other Container disk (followed by disk names). Could someone tell me if I did anything wrong? Why not both volumes in AppleAPFSMedia? How can that be fixed? My machine is MacBook Pro 16, Apple M2 Pro, Ventura 13.4.1. Thank you!

Can I use Time Machine with my Fusion drive? I am a bit confused on what I should select when backing up the Fusion drive on my iMac with Time Machine. There is a Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD - Data within a Container on my Fusion Drive. Do I select the Container, or the individual Macintosh HD and HD - Data? Thanks, Bryan

+1 ku4hx is spot on.

You need to reformat the Samsung external drive to use it for Time Machine.

"Container Disk 3" is an Upper Tier generic Mac name. To the left of "Disk Utility" click and select "Show all devices".

If that's the new Samsung, erase it and give it whatever name you choose as allowed by the format type.
