Objects (like line shapes) disappear in Pages as soon as you move them

This is a new problem/bug that's just started in Pages. I've been using Pages for over 10 years as a page-layout tool and for mocking up images and text. But now if I draw a shape, like a line shape -- for example, let's say I create a callout line for an image -- and then I try to adjust the angle of the line or the length, and move the line around on the document, that line completely disappears. This is a new bug that's started in the past month or so. It's not limited to long documents. It's ANY document. This is so frustrating.

I'm using Pages 12.1.

Hi sfsmusique,

With the object selected, Format Panel > Arrange > Stay on Page.

Ian.

I'm well aware of the Arrange panel. That's the first thing I do when I create an object like a line, an arrow, etc. -- I switch to "Arrange" and change it to "None." Like I said, I've been using Pages to create mockups for many years. The problem is that now there's a bug in Pages.

So, let's say I have an image on the page, and I want to create a callout and text to go with that image, using a line shape for the callout. I don't have a problem creating a text box. But I do have a problem with the line shape. Like always, I add the line shape to the page. Then I go straight to "Arrange" and change it to "None." Then go back to the line shape and select it to adjust the angle, length, and position. As soon as I release the object, it disappears.

Someone else started a thread about this same issue earlier in April, and Apple closed it already, so I had to start a new thread. I'm not the only person experiencing this problem. I hope someone files a Radar on this, because it's definitely a bug, not a user issue.

I am having pretty well the same problem. I also have been using pages for many years, and this is quite new to me. I am pretty certain it is not user error. I was trying to create a flow chart and have just had to give up on it. I am working on page 14 of a 27 page document which has little content. The lines are not disappearing - they turn up on the next page. A new line is always at an angle. As soon as I try to make it vertical or horizontal it jumps to the next page (having tekstwrap set to none has no effect on this). I can drag it back, but as soon as I try to alter the length of the line or the angle, it jumps to the next page again. I can find no way of creating my flow-chart.

For me I’ve found that the shape immediately jumps to the next page, so I basically just need to cut and paste it back to the original page.

My gut feeling is that if I don’t have enough carriage reruns on the page before adding the shape, it automatically jumps since its default behavior is to follow text. Might help to turn on the invisible elements to track where things end up.

Give it up. I've complained about this to Apple Pages support before and all they have are excuses. They wont even acknowledge that is s a problem. They blame the user (Reminiscent of Steve Job's "you're holding it wrong" as an excuse for that iPhone reception problem years ago). Frustrating, but I've been using Pages for so many years, I can't change now. Just have to find workarounds to these and other Pages deficiencies. Apple wont fix a problem that they wont even admit to.

This is not accurate. In the case of my trying to use an 'arrow' and move it, change the 'direction' - it simply disappears and that is WITH THE NONE on the "text wrap" portion. APPLE needs to quit screwing with all the software and leave it alone for once. The drawing part is messed up now with the 'erase background' as you now have no way to specifically erase a particular thing you wanted to do. And, the PAINT part of the programs has been gone for years!! BRING BACK THE PAINT AND THE ERASER TO GET RID OF THINGS I WANT TO THAT DO NOT INCLUDE THE WHOLE 'BACKGROUND'!!!

Using Pages v14.1 on Sonoma 14.5, I can insert an arrow shape. I can grab its grip on the arrow end and drag it in a 180° arc, then simply select Flip from the Arrange panel to reverse the direction of the arrow. I didn't bother to set Text Wrap to None or even choose to Stay on Page. It did not mysteriously disappear.

I can also insert an image and a Shape callout, then set both Text Wrap to None. I can then enter text into that callout and nothing vanishes from the current Pages document view.

The last time Apple offered a Paint or eraser capability was in AppleWorks 6.2.9 which was retired in Aug 2007. There has been no Paint or eraser capability in Pages since its inception as this is solved with free or fee third-party tools now.

Using capitals is SHOUTING and that is rude. I don't work for Apple, and no Apple product team participates or will read your comments here.
