iPhone 4 and apple ID

I have a ‘new to me’ iPhone 4 which I wish to add Apple iCloud services to.

I cannot sign in as iOS 7 on the phone does not support 2FA.

I cannot switch 2FA off (apple don’t allow this)

How can I get around this please, without setting up a new Apple ID that is not linked to my current Apple ID .

Would family sharing work?

but surprised by the inability to switch off 2FA

See -> Two-factor authentication for Apple ID -> Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

  • If you're already using two-factor authentication with your Apple ID, you can't turn it off. If you updated to two-factor authentication inadvertently, you can turn it off within two weeks of enrollment. If you do, your account is less secure and you can't use features that require a higher level of security.

What happens when you connect the iPhone 4 to the Mac?

Here's an iPhone 4 S (slightly younger than the iPhone 4) I can find with my Mac through Finder.

ideally if I can link apple accounts

Have you try to sign in?

Always have one Apple ID here for all devices, so I don't know if you use multiple Apple ID.

A question: do you use iMazing (is an paid app) on the Mac?

iMazing also recognizes my iPhone 4S and all photos.

Indeed, iOS 7.1.2 is the latest iOS version for iPhone 4 (June 7, 2010), can’t be update to a higher iOS.

In fact, you can hardly do anything with iPhone 4 anymore, iPhone 4 is an outdated iPhone that cannot be updated anymore.

Many apps will not be able to download, outdated iPhone no longer meets the requirements for many apps.

Not sure how you get that iPhone.

Read this before you use a 2nd hand iPhone.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I was aware in terms of apps etc what it could/couldn’t do, but surprised by the inability to switch off 2FA or even install iTunes onto my Mac.

At present at the very least it’s a functioning phone, ideally if I can link apple accounts I can upload any photos and sync to iCloud. Wasn’t looking for more than this in fairness given it is a 4.
