Adding a copied music file in my account (also family share) to a different iPhone

My husband didn't sync his music to the cloud when he upgraded to an iPhone 11. Don't know if this makes a difference, but he's part of my Family Share. I went into the local Apple Store and was shown how to make a copy of my music library and name it as my husband's file. But I'm not sure how to add the file to his music library on his phone and Apple ID. I believe I need to plug in his iPhone to my computer (where the file exists) but do I then sign out of my ID and sign in with his? I don't want to screw this up! It would be very time consuming if I had to add music by individually loading the CD in my CD reading device!

Thanks!

Understood Acadin53,

It isn't recommended to sign out and in under the same user account. Not only can it cause crossing of info, but it can also lock you out of swapping the Apple ID back for 90 days.

If you already have the file, it would be better to create a new administrator account on the Mac. Set this up with your husband's information and then email the file over to him. From there, he can copy the file to the location he wishes. When opening Music, the steps below will show how to tell the program where to find the music. Then, he can sync his iPhone with the computer. Just remember to log into your respective accounts whenever doing syncing since Music will be tied to each of your own Apple IDs.

Setting Up An Admin Account: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

Directing iTunes To Library: Change where your music files are stored on Mac - Apple Support

Something to bear in mind is that any purchased music will still be linked to your Apple ID. So he may still require your Apple ID be authenticated - it'll alert you if so - in order to play those tracks.

Best Regards!

Thank you for your reply. However I am only subscribed to iTunes Match, not Apple Music. I was told at the Apple Store I could create a copy of my music library (which I did) and then connect my husband’s phone to my computer and add the file copy to his phone. I just don’t remember at what point I a need to sign out of my iTunes account and sign in to his. I can go back to the store Genius Bar, but wanted to try to avoid this. Are you able to answer this?
