I want to change the permission to enable a new external ssd management software package to access the imac to enable it to be installed having blocked it in error. Tried using the Privacy and Security route but it will not recognise the file on the drive. Appreciate any help to resolve this. Thanks

What external SSD software management app are you referring to? Did it come with an SSD drive that you purchased? macOS doesn't not need any 3rd party software to use an external SSD. In fact the 3rd party software can hinder the system's efficient handling of external SSDs.

Yes, I understand that the drive can be used without the drive manufacturer (Samsung) pre-installed software which enables password protection of the drive as an additional level of security.
My other objective here is to seek help to better understand the options available to reset/reverse such access permissions if I need to do so.
How can I correct an access permission to the mac's hard drive ?
