My iPhone homescreen turns black
After the latest update my homescreen turns black. I need to restart the phone every day to get my chosen homescreen picture

It's a glitch. That should be fixed in the latest iOS updates. But the reason can often be that the background you are using has been used in a previous iOS version. iOS 16, with its new Lockscreen/Wallpaper Setting, is not best friends with legacy wallpapers.
Therefore. If you have the opportunity, try setting a different Wallpaper that you have lying around in the Photo app. Also note that if you use Live Weather Wallpaper, your Wallpaper will change as the day goes by and the weather changes. You might see a bright blue sky during the day and at night your background will be dark.
