Black home screen since update 26.3

"Black home screen since update 26.3  The update IOS 26.3 is ruining my iPhone 17 Pro Max home screen because nothing I do can remove the horrible black background!: [...]I changed my locked screen photo and ABRACADABRA the background on my home screen is blue and not the evil black!"

Interesting. Don't recall that being a solution of getting a black screen after an update.

Report this Bug Fix to Apple:

Do your Part: These are user-to-user forums. Apple rarely reads these forums on their own time as it is. So, provide Apple with feedback on this.  Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more they hear of this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed. Apple will know nothing if this, if you don't report it to them.

To Provide Feedback:

1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Comment: that this all stated after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread.
4. Proceed form there as necessary

Many users have found that the black screen issue is fixed by turning off Reduce Transparency, restarting device, and then enabling Reduce Transparency again.

Some people that had the black return had to set display zoom to default and/or had to pick a different Wallpaper. It’s seems some Wallpapers are also triggering the bug.

Have you updated your iPhone to iOS 26.3.1 yet? Apple released it specifically saying it contained bug fixes and optimizations.

It may be related to the actual image or type of Home Screen you’ve selected. Try a different Home Screen.

If you cannot make the change back, then I’d say either (A.)await the next iOS update, or (B.) reset your iPhone:

Reseting an iPhone:

1. Go to: Settings
2. Tap: General
3. Tap: Transfer or Reset iPhone
4. Choose: Reset

IMPORTANT: Do NOT select Erase All Content and Settings, as doing so, you’ll rid of all unsaved data.

The black screen came back fairly quickly after trying this fix. 🤷
