Referring back to closed discussion about MacBook Pro M1 Microphone not working when lid is closed

I saw that there were answers indicating that it was a hard coded security feature that when the lid is closed the microphone is turned off - even Apple/the MacBook can't access it or turn it on. That's all fine and good, but that was not the case for me until today. I've used external monitors (connected via USB-C and HDMI for dual monitors) and have the MacBook M1 lid closed all the time since I've owned for the last year. I definitely used it for Zoom and Team meetings before using the "Computer Audio" for sound and microphone. Also, I utilize device handoff and would make and answer calls through the MacBook FaceTime (of course using my iPhone cellular account nearby "handoff" and "wifi calling"). I'm in a course now and yesterday it had no issue. I left the computer on over night, like I do several times, and this morning the microphone is not working for Zoom or my FaceTime/iPhone handoff. I noticed that there was a macOS update (macOS 13.3.1). Thinking that was it, I ran the update for my MacBook as well as for Zoom after the Mac update. The issue continues - microphone not working when lid is closed. So, if it had been hardcoded before, why was it working and then why does it no longer work?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.3
